About Cleaning4SkinCancer

Cleaning4SkinCancer started out during the pandemic when our founder, Katherine (Lulu) Morse, an avid environmentalist, learned that a close family member was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma - a rare and aggressive skin cancer. While spending more time walking and exercising outdoors, she noticed an increase in litter on her local streets and beaches.

Katherine sought to combine her passion for a cleaner environment while raising awareness of all skin cancers but especially of Merkel Cell Carcinoma as it is on the rise in the United States.

Cleaning4SkinCancer is an environmental and Skin Cancer awareness group focused upon skin cancer prevention and environmental cleanliness. We are a group of dedicated individuals that believe in keeping our skin safe, regardless of weather conditions, and who are passionate about keeping our local beaches and streets litter-free. 

Our organization raises awareness of Merkel cell carcinoma (a rare but aggressive skin cancer) alongside local environmental action because emerging research suggests that environmental pollution — including chemical contaminants and littered materials that can carry pollutants or create microplastic pathways — may play a role in changing skin‑health risks. By combining education about Merkel cell carcinoma (its signs, risk factors, and importance of regular skin checks) with hands‑on beach and community cleanups, we simultaneously reduce potential pollutant sources, restore healthier local environments, and give people practical steps they can take to lower their overall exposure while learning how to protect themselves from UV‑related and other skin cancer risks
